Captain Gregory H. Freitag, MD, USN, is an Assistant Professor at the Dwight D. Eisenhower School of the National Defense University. He holds a medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (2002) and a Master of Science in National Security Strategy from the National War College (2019). His research focuses on Health Security policy in fragile nations, particularly the Horn of Africa, advocating for U.S. healthcare system support to counter violent extremism and geopolitical threats.
Key roles include Chief Medical Officer at Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Quantico (2019), CMO for Combined Joint Task Force – HOA (2021), and leadership positions in Amphibious Squadron SIX and Naval Hospital Oak Harbor. He is board-certified in Family Medicine and holds certifications in Flight Surgery and Surface Warfare Medical Operations.
His awards reflect decades of service: three Meritorious Service Medals, two Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medals, and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, among others.
