Gregory Galford

Gregory Galford is an Assistant Professor in the Apparel, Housing, and Resource Management program within the School of Design at Virginia Tech. His work bridges architectural design, residential environments, and sustainability, with a focus on non-traditional housing contexts.

His research explores architectural attributes in correctional and solitary confinement environments, historic reuse of institutions such as prisons and asylums, and the role of surveillance in residential design. Supported by grants from the IIE/U.S. State Department and the National Science Foundation, his work extends internationally to Indonesia, focusing on housing and water infrastructure sustainability and peer-to-peer education in brownfield redevelopment.
