Greg Tesch is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Monash University, specifically within the School of Clinical Sciences. His research focuses on the mechanisms underlying inflammation and fibrosis in chronic kidney diseases, particularly in diabetic and hypertensive conditions. He leads multiple research projects aimed at developing therapeutic interventions, including clinical trials targeting CCR2 and ASK1 inhibitors. His work involves collaborations with academic and industry partners internationally.
Research Interests: Dr. Tesch’s research examines the role of macrophages, tubular cells, fibroblasts, and signaling pathways in kidney and heart injury. His experimental techniques include conditional gene deletion, pharmacological inhibition, and novel drug delivery systems. He is particularly interested in translational research, aiming to translate findings into clinical therapeutics.
Current Projects: Tesch has led seven projects since 2010, including studies on biomarkers for ASK1 inhibitor therapy, cellular senescence in fibrosis, SYK signaling in diabetic kidney disease, and acute kidney injury prevention. These projects are funded by organizations like NHMRC (Australia) and involve collaborations with local and international institutions.
Advising and Grants: He currently supervises four PhD students and has secured grants from the National Health and Medical Research Council (Australia). His lab actively engages in developing drug delivery systems targeting specific cell types, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.
Labs and Teams: His research is conducted in collaboration with the Monash Health and involves interdisciplinary teams focused on renal pathology and drug development. Ongoing efforts include the development of mRNA-based therapies and senolytic drugs for fibrosis treatment.
