Greg Rybarczyk

Greg Rybarczyk is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography, Planning, and Environment at the University of Michigan-Flint, College of Innovation and Technology. He is also a Faculty Affiliate at the Michigan Institute for Data Science, an Associate Editor for Cities & Health, and a Fellow at the Centre for Urban Design and Mental Health in London. His work bridges geography, urban planning, and public health through advanced GIS methodologies.

His research focuses on the intersections of urban mobility, accessibility, and public health, with particular emphasis on micromobility (e-bikes, e-scooters), food insecurity, active travel, and mental well-being in urban environments. He employs spatio-temporal GIS modeling, naturalistic observation, and data mining to evaluate how urban design influences health outcomes and transportation behavior.

The 15 most recent publications highlight a strong trend toward understanding sustainable urban mobility, health equity, and the role of geospatial technology in analyzing complex urban systems. His work spans journals in urban geography, public health, transportation, and sustainability, reflecting a deeply interdisciplinary approach to solving urban challenges.

Greg Rybarczyk is the Principal Investigator on multiple active grants, including an NIH-funded study on e-bicycling and healthy aging and an NSF-funded project on safe bicycle infrastructure. He has supervised several research projects and mentored students and collaborators across disciplines.

He is actively involved in research teams focused on urban data science, mental health and design, and sustainable transportation.
