Greg Keeffe is a Professor of Architecture + Urbanism at the School of Architecture, Queen's University Belfast, with over 30 years of experience in sustainability and urban design. He previously served as Head of the School of Natural and Built Environment (2016-2021) and Director of Research for Architecture at Leeds School of Architecture.
His research focuses on sustainable cities, urban resilience, and climate change adaptation, conceptualizing cities as synergistic superorganisms through research by design methodology. He has led EU FP7 and ESRC-funded projects like CityZEN (zero-carbon neighborhoods) and M-Nex (food-energy-water nexus), involving collaborators from TU Delft, Keio University, and University of Michigan.
Recent publications explore climate connectivity, thermal comfort, and co-designed infrastructure, reflecting his interests in landscape urbanism and the productive city. Awards include the 2014 Green Genius Award and 2018 Best Paper Award for his work on urban ecological networks.
He has held visiting positions at Cornell University (Thomas J Baird Visiting Professor, 2021-22), TU Delft, and Keio University. His teaching includes the Architettura Superleggera studio on climate emergency-responsive design and a 25-year history of design studios on bioclimatic architecture and infrastructure theory.
