Professor Grant Horner serves as a Professor of English, Renaissance, and Reformation at The Master's University, where he also directs the Classical Liberal Arts Program and founded The Master's University in Italy program. He is an Alcuin Fellow in the Society for Classical Learning and holds an appointment as Visiting Assistant Professor of Latin at Fuller Seminary.
Horner earned his B.A. from York College, M.A. from University of Alabama, and Ph.D. from Claremont University, with additional Ph.D. work at Duke University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His academic journey includes teaching positions at University of Alabama and UNC-Chapel Hill before joining The Master's University.
His research focuses on Renaissance and Reformation literature, theology, and philosophy, with particular expertise in Milton, Shakespeare, Erasmus, Luther, and Calvin. Horner explores Christian Humanism in the Reformation, examining the relationship between developing Reformed thought and Classical Graeco-Roman pagan mythology and philosophy. His work bridges theology, literature, and cultural history, with significant contributions to film and theology as well.
Horner's publications show a consistent focus on the intersection of Christian thought with classical learning and cultural expression. His works demonstrate how theological concepts permeate both canonical literature and contemporary media, revealing enduring patterns of human inquiry into truth, beauty, and meaning across historical periods.

Horner actively mentors students in classical education and has designed humanities programs at Trinity Classical Academy and The Master's University. He regularly speaks at national conferences, including the Kegel Lecture at Caltech, and has over 100 media appearances discussing theology, philosophy, and popular culture. His international work includes developing classical Christian education in East Africa through partnership with the Rafiki Foundation.
Horner directs The Master's University in Italy program, where students study Renaissance humanism in Florence, Rome, and Venice, exploring the fundamental question 'quid est homo?' (what is man?). He also maintains an active presence in rock climbing, having made multiple speed ascents of Yosemite's El Capitan.
