Graham Lieschke

Professor Graham Lieschke is a clinical and research haematologist at Monash University's Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute (ARMI). He holds a dual role as a clinical haematologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital (2007–2022), treating leukaemia and lymphoma patients, and as an honorary haematologist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (2016–2022). He obtained his medical degrees from the University of Melbourne (1983) and completed specialist training in medical oncology, securing FRACP in 1991. His postdoctoral work at the Whitehead Institute (USA) focused on tumour immunology before establishing his zebrafish-based research program in Australia.

Research Interests: Exploiting zebrafish models to study blood cell development, haematological malignancies, and immune responses. Key areas include neutrophil biology, genetic regulators of granulopoiesis, and in vivo imaging of cellular processes. His work bridges clinical practice with translational research, targeting blood disorders and cancer therapies.

Scientific Awards: John Maynard Hedstrom Research Fellowship, Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellowship, NHMRC Senior Research Fellowship, and the inaugural George Hodgson Medal for Medical Science.

Grants & Projects: Principal Investigator on ARC-funded projects like 'Migration-Dependent Signalling in Macrophages' (2023–2026) and co-investigator on studies addressing gout pathogenesis and bone marrow failure syndromes.
