Grady Dixon serves as Dean of the Werth College of Science, Technology, and Mathematics and Professor of Geosciences at Fort Hays State University. His academic leadership spans both administrative and teaching roles within the Department of Geosciences.
His educational background includes a Ph.D. in Geography from Arizona State University (2005), M.S. in Geography from the University of Georgia (2002), and B.S. in Geosciences (Meteorology) from Mississippi State University (2000).
Dixon's research focuses on applying weather data to real-world problems across multiple disciplines, with recent emphasis on improving access, diversity, and inclusion in geosciences and higher education. His field work includes extensive storm chasing activities documented annually from 2007 through 2023 across multiple states including Kansas, Colorado, Texas, and international locations.
He teaches core geosciences courses including Elements of Physical Geography, Introduction to World Geography, Climatology, Weather Analysis, Physical Meteorology, Synoptic Meteorology, and Severe Storm Observations. His storm chasing documentation shows active engagement with severe weather phenomena including tornadoes, supercells, and tropical systems, with photographic records spanning more than 15 years of field observations.
