Grace Vargas

Grace Vargas, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Religion Department at Texas Christian University (TCU), affiliated with the AddRan College of Liberal Arts. She holds a Ph.D. from Southern Methodist University, an M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a B.A. from Rutgers University.

Her research focuses on Church History, World Christianity, and Latin America, with emphases on Latino/a/x religious identities, religion and empire, and race and gender dynamics. She teaches courses like Latinx Religious Identities and Religion and Revolution in Latin America.

Her publications explore topics such as Caribbean Baptist history, Cuban missionary education, and Venezuelan religious landscapes. She is an active member of professional academic associations and has contributed to major scholarly projects like The Oxford Handbook of Baptist Studies.

Dr. Vargas’ work bridges historical analysis with contemporary social justice themes, particularly examining how religious institutions intersect with colonialism, migration, and political movements in Latin America and the Caribbean.
