Carol Holcomb

Carol Holcomb is a Professor and the Janey S. Briscoe Chair of Religion and Life at the College of Christian Studies, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB), where she has served from 1999 to the present. She earned a Ph.D. from Baylor University, an M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a B.A. from Louisiana Tech University.

Her research focuses on American Religious History, Baptist Women's Roles in Progressivism, and Southern Baptist Race Relations, particularly through the lens of the Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU). She explores how Baptists engaged with the Social Gospel and redefined gender ideology in the Progressive Era.

The 15 most recent publications highlight her expertise in Baptist historical movements, including analyses of the Woman’s Missionary Union, gender dynamics in Southern Progressivism, and religious liberty narratives. Her work spans primary research articles, book reviews, and newspaper commentaries.
