Dr. Grace Akese is a Postdoctoral Researcher and Research Associate in the Research Section 'Mobilities' at the University of Bayreuth, affiliated with the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence. She works under Prof. Dr. Uli Beisel, focusing on the intersection of e-waste geographies and circular economies. Previously, she held research positions at Memorial University of Newfoundland (Canada) in the School of Social Work and Department of Geography, collaborating with Dr. Delores Mullings, Dr. Paul Issahaku, and Dr. Josh Lepawsky.
Dr. Akese’s expertise lies in waste geographies, particularly electronic waste’s spatial dynamics in the Global South. Her research highlights how discarded electronics are transformed into production sites through reuse, repair, and remanufacturing. She explores ethical design, repair culture, and maintenance practices within circular economies.
Educational background includes a Ph.D. and MA in Geography from Memorial University (2019 and 2014, respectively) and a BA in Geography from the University of Ghana (2010). Her work emphasizes the socio-economic and environmental implications of e-waste management across diverse global contexts.
