Professor Gordon Lynch is the Professor of Religion, Society and Ethics at the School of Divinity, University of Edinburgh. He previously held the Michael Ramsey Chair in Modern Theology at the University of Kent. His work focuses on meaning and value in contemporary societies, the social implications of sacred moral commitments, and historical institutional abuse, including UK child migration schemes. He has provided expert testimony for inquiries into child sexual abuse and Scottish child abuse cases.

Leadership & Grants: As national sub-panel Chair for Theology and Religious Studies in REF2021, he has shaped academic evaluation frameworks. His leadership includes directing Kent’s Graduate and Researcher College and developing national doctoral training programs in contemporary religion studies. He has secured multiple grants and fellowships for interdisciplinary research projects.
Collaborations: Engages with third-sector organizations, digital education initiatives, and cultural institutions to translate academic research into public-facing projects, including national museum exhibitions.
