Godfried Asante is an Associate Professor in the School of Communication at San Diego State University, where he also serves as PSFA Diversity Council Chair and Interim Director of the Institute for Dialogue and Social Justice. His research focuses on critical intercultural communication, queer African studies, and decolonial approaches to transnational blackness.
Educational background includes a Ph.D. in Critical Intercultural Communication from the University of New Mexico (2017), M.A. in Communication Studies from Minnesota State University, Mankato (2012), and B.A. in Communication, Media and Rhetoric from University of Minnesota, Morris (2010).
Research examines LGBTQ+ identities in Ghanaian contexts, queer diaspora experiences, and decolonial methodologies. Recent publications analyze homophobia in religious discourses, queer relationality, and empowerment politics. Asante applies participatory action research to human rights NGO practices.
