University of Colorado, Denverمعرفی
Dr. Glenn Furuta is Professor of Pediatrics-Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus School of Medicine. He serves as Section Head of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Director of the Gastrointestinal Eosinophilic Diseases Program at the Digestive Health Institute, and holds the La Cache Endowed Chair for GI Allergic and Immunologic Diseases.
His educational background includes:
- MD from Baylor College of Medicine (1986)
- BA from University of Texas–Austin (1982)
- Internship at Baylor College of Medicine Program (1987)
- Residency at Baylor College of Medicine Program, Chief Resident, Pediatrics (1990)
- Fellowship at Children's Hospital/Harvard Medical School Program, Pediatric Gastroenterology (1993)
Dr. Furuta's research focuses on eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases, particularly mechanisms of inflammation related to Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Diseases (EGIDs), novel methods to detect gastrointestinal inflammation, and clinical features and outcome metrics for EGIDs. His work has significantly advanced the understanding and treatment of eosinophilic esophagitis and related disorders through translational research connecting laboratory findings to clinical applications. He has pioneered minimally invasive diagnostic techniques like the Esophageal String Test and contributed to the development of clinical severity indices for these conditions.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on molecular mechanisms of eosinophilic esophagitis, clinical trials of dietary interventions, and development of biomarkers for disease monitoring. There's a clear trend toward multi-center collaborative studies addressing diagnostic criteria, treatment protocols, and patient outcomes in eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders across his extensive publication record spanning over two decades.
Dr. Furuta has received several notable awards:
- Career Teaching Scholar Award, Department of Pediatrics (2022)
- Shwachman Award, North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (2021)
- Patient Family Experience Award, Healthgrades (2018 and 2017)
- Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Diseases Service Award, Cincinnati Children's Hospital (2017)
As a leader in his field, Dr. Furuta has been instrumental in developing research infrastructure for eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases and has contributed to numerous clinical guidelines. His work with the Consortium of Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disease Researchers (CEGIR) has facilitated multi-center studies that have shaped current understanding and treatment approaches for these conditions. He has served on expert panels for the FDA and contributed to standardizing diagnostic criteria for eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders.
He directs the Gastrointestinal Eosinophilic Diseases Program at the Digestive Health Institute, which focuses on providing specialized care for patients with eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders while advancing research through clinical studies and translational investigations. His leadership extends to multiple professional societies where he has helped establish consensus statements and treatment guidelines for eosinophilic esophagitis and related conditions.
