معرفی
Giuseppe V. Masucci, MD, PhD, is Professor of Oncology at the Department of Oncology-Pathology, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. Since 1978 he has combined clinical practice at Karolinska University Hospital with translational and clinical research, leading the Onco-Immunotherapy Innovation and Research Unit (OITIRU) and serving as principal investigator on more than 30 phase I–III trials.
Education & Career
- Clinician, Department of Oncology, Karolinska University Hospital (1978–present)
- Professor, Department of Oncology-Pathology, Karolinska Institutet
- Docent (Associate Professor), Karolinska Institutet
- Överläkare (Senior Consultant), Karolinska University Hospital
Research Focus
Professor Masucci’s work integrates bedside and bench to advance precision immuno-oncology. Core themes include:
- Cancer Immunotherapy: pioneering clinical trials of checkpoint inhibitors, adoptive T-cell therapy and dendritic-cell vaccines.
- Personalized Cancer Medicine: developing machine-learning algorithms (CLICAL, SRF-CLICAL) that translate tumor immune profiles into individualized treatment plans.
- Tumor Immunology & Microenvironment: dissecting myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC), FAP+ fibroblasts, and HLA-restricted immune responses.
- Translational Networks: coordinating Nordic and Scandinavian consortia (SNIC, Nordic Centre of Excellence for Tumour Vaccination) to validate the international Immunoscore in colon cancer.
Publications & Impact
With >150 peer-reviewed articles in Lancet, J Clin Oncol, Cancer Res, J Immunother Cancer and others, his research has shaped global biomarker standards and immunotherapy guidelines. Recent work leverages multicenter real-world datasets to refine predictive models for immunotherapy benefit across melanoma, colon, and Merkel-cell carcinoma.
Scientific Awards & Honors
While specific awards are not listed, sustained leadership roles in SITC, Immunoscore Worldwide Task Force, and editorial boards of premier journals reflect international recognition.
Supervision & Mentorship
- PhD supervision: Hannah Björn Andtback (2022–)
- Extensive mentoring of post-docs and clinician-scientists within OITIRU and Karolinska doctoral school.
Laboratory & Team
OITIRU occupies state-of-the-art facilities at BioClinicum, Solna, uniting wet-lab tumor immunologists, bioinformaticians, and clinical trialists to drive next-generation adaptive trial designs and AI-guided therapeutic algorithms.
