Giuseppe Traina is a Full Professor of Italian Literature at the Department of Humanities, University of Catania, based at the Special Teaching Structure in Ragusa. He holds the academic rank of Professor and has been a central figure in the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures since 2001. His teaching includes Italian Literature, Comparative Literature, and Southern Italian Literature, as well as a module on Medieval and Modern Italian Literature in the Modern Philology program.

His research is deeply rooted in modern and contemporary Italian literature, with a particular focus on Leonardo Sciascia and Angelo Maria Ripellino. He investigates cultural exchanges between Italy and Mitteleuropa and explores themes of intellectual Ulyssism and prison literature. His scholarly work spans literary criticism, philology, and cultural studies.
Traina is actively involved in academic leadership and service. He has curated conference proceedings, co-directs four academic book series, and serves on the scientific committees of numerous journals and publishing collections. He has organized major academic events and is responsible for Erasmus agreements with several European universities.
