Giuseppe Timpanaro is an Associate Professor of Agricultural and Food Economics and Rural Appraisal at the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment, University of Catania. He teaches Agricultural Policy in the Degree Course in Agricultural Science and Technologies and Agri-food Markets and Marketing in the Master's Degree Course.
His educational background is as follows:
- PhD in "Agricultural Economics and Policy" (VIII cycle), Faculty of Agriculture, University of Palermo
His primary research interests span agricultural economics, agri-food policy, and rural development. He investigates the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), market dynamics, agri-environmental policies, and the promotion of quality agri-food products. His work in agri-food economics examines consumer behavior, supply chain management, logistics, and information technology applications. Additionally, he focuses on sustainable agricultural practices, social agriculture models (such as Agrisocial farms), and the role of agri-food districts in local development, particularly in Sicily.
Professor Timpanaro has supervised numerous theses and PhD dissertations. He has led significant research initiatives including:
- Coordinator of University Funds (PRA) in 2003, 2006, 2008, and 2009-2010
- Coordinator of regional projects for the Sicily Region on fruit production and CAP reform impact
- Coordinator of a PRIN national research project on organic agriculture
- Coordinator of the STRUGO project on governance tools for agri-food systems
- Work Package Leader in European projects ORPRAMED-Arimnet2, BRESOV (HORIZON 2020), and PROTAGONISTS
