He also holds an Adjunct Professor position at the School of Pharmacy, University of Kansas (USA) since March 2023. His academic background includes a Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences and a Master's Degree in Biomolecular Chemistry from the University of Catania (UniCT), both with honors.
Research Interests: Dr. Caruso specializes in applying microfluidic-based technologies for drug discovery in Alzheimer's Disease (AD), focusing on in vitro/in vivo/ex vivo models and plasma biomarker detection. His work explores the neurobiological link between AD and depression, oxidative stress mechanisms, and the therapeutic potential of carnosine, supported by national/international collaborations on microglia/macrophage activity in neurodegenerative diseases.
Scientific Achievements include:
- International Fellowship for research at University of Kansas (USA)
- American Heart Association Grant for oxidative stress studies
- Co-authorship on patents in innate immune response mechanisms
