Giulio Galli is a typeface designer, researcher, and teacher based in Brussels, Belgium. He serves as a PhD candidate at the University of Hasselt's READSEARCH Research Lab while teaching typeface design and typography at PXL University of Applied Sciences and Arts (School of Arts). Since 2018, he has concurrently worked as an associate typeface designer at CAST Foundry in Italy, developing both custom and retail typefaces.
His research spans parametric typeface design for legibility optimization, comparative analysis of human versus computational letterform interpretation, and historical typography investigations. Key historical focuses include Baroque types at the Vatican Press (1588–1614), woodcut types in Lutheran music publishing, and Art Deco/avant-garde lettering on early 20th-century music album covers.
Publications demonstrate consistent emphasis on historical context and legibility frameworks, with recent work examining Vatican Press typography through material analysis and cultural impact lenses. His methodology integrates archival research with contemporary design practice.
Galli's academic affiliation with READSEARCH Research Lab provides the foundation for his doctoral work on parametric design systems, while CAST Foundry collaborations bridge scholarly research and commercial type development.
