Giulia Scarpa is a mixed-methods scientist and pediatric nurse, currently serving as a Postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Tropical Medicine (Antwerp, Belgium) and Honorary Assistant Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM, UK). She holds a PhD in Nutrition and Environment from the University of Leeds, an MSc in Global Health from the University of Southampton, and an MSc in Anthropology from the University of Bologna. She also has a Diploma in Tropical Nursing (LSHTM) and a BSc in Pediatric Nursing.
Her research focuses on the impact of climate change on neonatal and child health and nutrition, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Her PhD explored climatic factors affecting maternal and child nutrition, including breastfeeding and complementary feeding practices. She collaborates with Epicentre/Médecins Sans Frontières and has extensive clinical and research experience in neonatal and pediatric intensive care.
Teaching includes modules at ITM on Evaluations, Sexual and Reproductive Health, and Tropical Medicine, as well as online MSc programs at LSHTM in collaboration with the University of Ghana. She supervises MSc and PhD students.
Recent research output includes a 2025 article on dietary diversity and anemia prevalence in Nigerian pregnancies, published in PLoS Global Public Health.
