Giulia Mahlig is a Researcher and PhD candidate at the Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance. She specializes in tax law with a focus on international taxation and migration-related tax issues. Her work addresses coherence in migrants’ tax liability and cross-border taxation challenges.

Research Interests: Giulia’s research explores the intersection of migration and taxation, particularly examining special tax regimes and their role in globalized economies. She analyzes legal frameworks governing cross-border tax liabilities and contributes to debates on international tax reform.
Publications: Her recent work includes a chapter on migrants’ tax coherence (2025) and a review of Victoria Plekhanova’s analysis of tax reciprocity (2023).
