Mats Tjernberg is a Professor and Associate Professor at the Department of Law, Lund University. He holds roles as Research coordinator for Integration and Law, Lund Tax Academy, and Researcher in Public Law. His primary research focuses on tax law interpretation, taxation of closely held companies, migrant taxation/social benefits, cross-border leasing, and Nordic tax proceedings. Currently leads the 'Mutual legal and economic conditions for successful integration' project funded by the Kamprad Family Foundation.
- Teaches tax law and supervises at the Master program in European and International Taxation (MEIT).
- Supervised five completed doctoral students and currently advises three ongoing PhD projects.
- Active in expert committees and has served as opponent in Stockholm/Uppsala PhD defenses.
Research highlights include studies on Öresund region taxation, Nordic tax proceedings, and migration-related fiscal policies. Engaged in international collaborations and policy consultations (e.g., 2025 Swedish tax reform responses).
