Giulia Greco

Giulia Greco is a Researcher in the Department of Global Health and Development at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), Faculty of Public Health and Policy. Her work spans health economics, maternal and child health, menstrual health interventions, and the application of the capability approach to measure wellbeing in global health contexts.

Dr. Greco's research interests focus on economic evaluation of public health interventions, particularly in low-resource settings across Africa. She has made significant contributions to understanding menstrual health and its relationship to education and mental health outcomes among adolescent girls in Tanzania and Uganda. Her work on the capability approach has advanced methodologies for measuring women's wellbeing in rural Malawi and beyond. She also investigates child disability economics, kangaroo mother care implementation, and health equity among refugee populations.

Her publication portfolio demonstrates consistent leadership in major research projects including the MENISCUS menstrual health trial, OMWaNA kangaroo mother care study, and Ebola+D mental health intervention. These studies predominantly employ mixed methods approaches combining economic evaluation with clinical and public health outcomes assessment across multiple African countries.

Dr. Greco has contributed to numerous grant-funded projects from major donors including UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office; Medical Research Council; Department of Health and Social Care; and Wellcome. Her work frequently involves collaboration with Ugandan, Tanzanian, and Malawian research institutions and government bodies.

She has been instrumental in developing new measurement tools including the Women's Capabilities Index and approaches to valuing quality of life in economic evaluations of sanitation interventions. Her research bridges theoretical frameworks with practical implementation challenges in resource-limited settings.
