Professor Helen Weiss is a Professor of Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), part of the Faculty of Epidemiology and Population Health and the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology and International Health. She has been at LSHTM since 1997, progressing from Lecturer to her current rank. Her research focuses on adolescent health, mental health, menstrual health, HIV epidemiology, and randomized controlled trials in low-income settings. She leads the MENISCUS trial evaluating menstrual health interventions in Ugandan schools and the MRC-funded Better Sleep Better Health study. She also co-leads the MRC International Statistics and Epidemiology Partnership to strengthen African medical statistics networks.
Education: DPhil in Cancer Epidemiology (University of Oxford), MSc in Applied Statistics (Oxford), BSc in Statistics and Mathematics (University of Sussex).
Key grants include the MENISCUS trial, MRC-funded capacity-building initiatives, and studies on HIV/AIDS and mental health interventions in sub-Saharan Africa. She teaches epidemiology and statistics on MSc programs and short courses. Her work spans Uganda, Zimbabwe, India, and other developing regions. Notable collaborations include the Zvandiri programme in Zimbabwe and the SEHER trial in India.
