Dr Giulia Gentile is a Lecturer in Law at the University of Essex, where she has been employed since 2023. She is a co-PI for the EU Horizon 2024-2027 collaborative project EXPRESS2, focusing on digital constitutionalism and EU social contracts. Her research emphasizes human rights in digital societies, EU constitutional law, and AI's impact on legal systems.

Giulia's research explores the intersection of digital technologies, legal frameworks, and EU law. She has led projects funded by the EU Commission and UKRI, addressing rule of law, public values, and digitization. Her work spans topics such as GDPR enforcement, AI in justice systems, and effective judicial protection under the EU Charter.
Her recent publications analyze AI's ethical implications, digital regulation, and EU judicial federalism trends. Notably, her 2021 PhD thesis won the European Public Law Organization PhD Thesis Prize. She serves as Research Co-Director on AI at DICOPO and is a member of the Scientific Council of the Centre for AI & Digital Humanism.
