Giovanni Valente is a full Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Politecnico di Milano, specializing in the philosophy and foundations of physics. He earned his PhD from the University of Maryland, College Park (2009) and has held visiting fellowships globally, including Oxford, Princeton, and Cambridge. His research focuses on quantum probability, causality in relativistic quantum field theory, thermodynamics, and interdisciplinary issues in climate science, economics, and evidence-based medicine.
He received the Cushing Prize (2014) and prestigious grants like the Humboldt Fellowship and FWF Lise Meitner Programme. As a leader in academic collaboration, he co-founded the FoQuS laboratory on quantum systems foundations and coordinates the Irvine-London-Munich-PoliMi-Salzburg Network in physics foundations. He also contributes to the META unit exploring science and technology philosophy at Politecnico.
Valente supervises MSCA fellowships and actively pursues grants (PRIN 2017/2022). Beyond academia, he enjoys cycling and yoga.
