Giovanni B. Grandi is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus, affiliated with the Department of Economics, Philosophy, and Political Science. He serves as Program Advisor for the Philosophy program. His research focuses on early modern philosophy, particularly theories of perception in eighteenth-century Scotland, the reception of Scottish philosophy in the early nineteenth century, and Condillac’s political economy. Grandi holds a PhD from the University of Western Ontario, an MA from the University of Windsor, and a Laurea from the University of Bologna.
His teaching spans early modern philosophy, logic, critical thinking, and Austrian school economics. Key research areas include the philosophical works of Thomas Reid, John Fearn, and Étienne Bonnot de Condillac, with emphasis on perception theory, political economy, and the interplay between common sense philosophy and scientific thought.
Grandi’s publications analyze Reid’s theories of vision, the historical context of Scottish Enlightenment ideas, and the critique of miracles in providential naturalism. His work bridges historical philosophical analysis with contemporary debates in epistemology and the philosophy of mind.
