Becko Copenhaver is a Professor of Philosophy and Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology at Washington University. She holds a PhD from Cornell University and specializes in philosophy of mind, early modern philosophy, and the history of philosophical theories of perception and memory. Her work focuses on modern British philosophers like Thomas Reid, George Berkeley, and John Locke, emphasizing perceptual learning over cognitive permeation models.
She co-authored From Kant to Croce: Modern Philosophy in Italy 1800–1950 and co-edited the 6-volume History of the Philosophy of Mind. Her current projects include a book on Thomas Reid’s science of mind and research on perceptual development through learning frameworks.
Her edited volume Philosophy of Mind in the Early Modern and Modern Ages explores key figures like Descartes, Kant, and Spinoza, analyzing dualism, materialism, and related debates. She is affiliated with Washington University’s Department of Philosophy and maintains an office in Wilson Hall.
