Dr. Gina Trapp is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Western Australia (UWA) and Head of Food and Nutrition Research at the Telethon Kids Institute. She holds a Bachelor of Health Science (Nutrition and Psychology) with First Class Honours and a PhD in Public Health from UWA. Her roles include leadership in food and nutrition research, with affiliations to the UWA Medical School and the UWA Centre for Child Health Research.

Her research bridges nutrition, public health, geography, and urban planning, focusing on how environments influence children’s food choices, physical activity, and weight status. Key projects include improving school and community food environments, funded by ARC, Cancer Council WA, Healthway, and WA Health Department. She leads a team of 18 staff/students.
Notable achievements include securing $9.46M in research funding, 117 publications, and 37 awards including the West Australian Young Tall Poppy Science Award. Her work contributes to UN SDGs related to health and sustainable cities.
Grants and collaborations span food stress mapping, outdoor advertising impact studies, and improving kids’ meal nutritional quality. Supervised work includes mentoring in public health and nutrition research.
