Gina M. Calabrese is a Clinical Professor and Associate Director of the Consumer Justice for the Elderly: Litigation Clinic (CJELC) at St. John's University School of Law. She also serves as Co-Director of the Public Interest Center and has been a faculty member since 2001. Her work focuses on training law students to represent low-income elderly clients in consumer debt, foreclosure, and contractor disputes, while advocating for systemic legal reforms.

Professor Calabrese's research and practice emphasize consumer rights, clinical legal pedagogy, and elder law. She co-authored the model legislation for New York's Exempt Income Protection Act (EIPA), which safeguards Social Security funds from wrongful seizure, and has written extensively on professionalism in legal education. Her clinical work integrates direct representation, policy advocacy, and training programs for pro bono initiatives like CLARO.
Her publications include articles in the South Carolina Law Review and the Empire Justice Center’s Legal Services Journal, addressing topics such as debt collection reforms, access to justice, and clinical education methodologies. She has testified before local, state, and federal bodies on consumer debt issues and continues to influence legislative and judicial practices.
Prior to St. John’s, she practiced at Adams, Duque & Hazeltine in Los Angeles and led the Litigation Department at the Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights, achieving landmark victories in insurance fairness. Her career bridges litigation, legislative advocacy, and experiential education.
