Dr. Gillian Carter is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Queen's University Belfast, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine, Health & Life Sciences. She leads research on palliative care, dementia, and family carer support, emphasizing peer-led interventions and digital solutions. Her work includes the development of the Kids Dementia Game and international collaborations in Vietnam.
Her research interests span chronic illness care, advance care planning, and improving public and professional understanding of neurodegenerative diseases. She supervises PhD students in areas like Parkinson’s awareness and dementia caregiving. Dr. Carter has received awards such as the Alzheimer's Society Dementia Hero Award and is actively involved in teaching modules like Evidence-Based Nursing and Dementia Care.
Her funded projects include scaling dementia caregiver interventions and optimizing diabetes care in nursing homes. She contributes to leadership roles including the Staff Development Committee and the SWAN Culture Working Group.
