Dr Gill McGill is an Assistant Professor in Health Policy and Research at Northumbria University and Co-Director of the Veterans and Military Families Research Hub. With extensive experience in the NHS and public health commissioning, her work focuses on veteran health equity, military family support, and LGBTQ+ veteran policy impacts.

Her research explores veteran brain health, social isolation among military widows, and safety planning frameworks for veteran families. Recent work examines endocrinological determinants of cognitive outcomes in female veterans and historical discrimination against LGBTQ+ service members.
Dr McGill leads funded projects including the Evaluation of the Families SPOC program (2022-2023) and has presented at the Office of Veterans Affairs Annual Conference and Westminster Roundtable on LGBT+ Veterans. She manages multi-agency collaborations and has pioneered research connecting military service trauma with post-service health disparities.
