Gilbert Masters is Emeritus Professor of Sustainable Energy in Stanford University's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, School of Engineering. With over 10,000 students enrolled in his courses during his career, Masters has received multiple teaching awards including Stanford's Gores Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Tau Beta Pi teaching award.
His scholarship focuses on sustainable energy solutions through energy efficiency and renewable energy systems. Masters has authored influential textbooks including 'Renewable and Efficient Electric Power Systems' and 'Energy for Sustainability: Technology, Policy and Planning', which have shaped curriculum development in environmental engineering programs globally.
Beyond teaching, Masters served the School of Engineering as Associate Dean for Student Affairs (1982-1986) and as Interim Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (1992-93). His educational legacy continues through ongoing instruction of energy-focused courses despite emeritus status.
