Gibin Powathil

Professor Gibin Powathil is an applied mathematician specializing in mathematical oncology and multiscale cancer modeling. He is affiliated with the School of Mathematics and Computer Science at Swansea University, within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. His research focuses on developing computational models to understand cancer growth and treatment strategies, particularly patient-specific therapies.

He holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Waterloo (Canada), an MS in Computational Mathematics from the National University of Singapore, and an MSc in Mathematics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. His expertise spans mathematical biology, oncology, and computational techniques applied to biomedical problems.

Research interests include tumor metabolism, drug resistance mechanisms, and the integration of imaging techniques in cancer modeling. He has contributed to over 50 peer-reviewed publications, including studies on hypoxia-activated prodrugs, radiation therapy optimization, and agent-based models for cancer treatment response.

Professor Powathil has secured significant grants, such as the £4.7M HDRUK (NIWA1) project, and collaborates internationally. He is an editorial board member for Journal of Theoretical Biology and Mathematical Biosciences and Engineering, and actively organizes conferences in mathematical biology and oncology.
