Gianluca Del Monaco

Gianluca Del Monaco is a Senior Assistant Professor (fixed-term) in the History of Medieval Art (ARTE-01/A) at the Department of the Arts, University of Bologna since September 2022. He serves as Principal Investigator (PI) for the PRIN 2022 PNRR project on animals and plants in North Italian art between the 14th and 17th centuries. His research focuses on Romanesque and Gothic painting, medieval book illumination, and legal manuscripts in Bologna/Emilia.

Education: PhD in Art History (University of Bologna). Held fellowships at Fondazione Roberto Longhi (Florence) and the Getty/ACLS Postdoctoral Fellowship.

Teaching: Courses for Bachelor in DAMS, Master in Visual Arts, and Scuola di Specializzazione in Beni Storico Artistici.

Awards: Getty/ACLS Fellowship, Roberto Longhi Foundation Fellowship.

Advising/Grants: Leads PRIN 2022 project. Teaches art history courses with practical assessments involving image analysis and artist identification.
