Giancarlo Comi

Giancarlo Comi is a Full Professor of Neurology at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University and holds roles at the Scientific Institute San Raffaele in Milan, including Scientific Director of the MS Centre and Founder/Chairman of the Institute of Experimental Neurology (INSPE). He has served in leadership positions such as Director of the Department of Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology, and has coordinated multiple post-degree and PhD programs.

Education: MD with honors from the University of Milan (1973), Neurology Certification (1977), and extensive academic appointments since 1988.

Research interests focus on multiple sclerosis (MS), neuroimmunology, and clinical neurophysiology. His work spans clinical trials, neurorehabilitation, and translational research, with significant contributions to the European and global MS research community.

Awards include the Romanian Society of Neurology honorary award and Honorary membership from the Russian Neurological Academic Society. He has held editorial roles in journals like Neurological Sciences and Multiple Sclerosis Journal.

Leadership includes roles as President of the European Neurological Society (2006–2008) and President of the Italian Society of Neurology (2012–2014). He has directed numerous research initiatives and international collaborations, including the European Charcot Foundation and FISM.
