Giacomo D'Amico is a full professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Messina's Department of Law, where he has held roles from researcher (2002-2011) to associate professor (2011-2021) and his current position since 2021. He holds a PhD in Constitutional Justice and Fundamental Rights from the University of Pisa (2000-2002). His career includes research assistant roles at the Italian Constitutional Court under Professors Gaetano Silvestri (2005-2014) and Daria de Pretis (2018-2024). He served as legal advisor to the President of the Sicilian Regional Assembly (2015-2017) and on a ministerial board for civic education (2021-2023). He coordinates the Master's Degree in Law at the University of Messina since 2023.
His research focuses on constitutional law, public law, emergency legislation, and fundamental rights, particularly in the context of health emergencies. He has authored over 100 scholarly publications, including monographs, and contributes to journals like Quaderni Costituzionali and Rassegna Parlamento. He is a member of editorial boards for legal journals and directs the Observatory on Constitutional Jurisprudence.
Notable awards include the Prof. Salvatore Catinella Award from the Rotary Club of Palermo (2000). His teaching spans constitutional justice, legal philosophy, and interdisciplinary topics like the ecological and digital transitions. He actively engages with schools through legal workshops and public events.
