Professor Ghazala Mir is a Professor of Health Equity and Inclusion at the University of Leeds, affiliated with the School of Medicine within the Faculty of Medicine and Health. Her expertise spans health inequalities, ethnicity, religion, and social inclusion. She leads the Inequalities Research Network (IRN) and serves as Research Lead at the Nuffield Centre for International Health and Development. Her research focuses on marginalized groups, including ethnic minorities, Muslims, women, and people with disabilities, emphasizing culturally adapted interventions for mental health and equitable healthcare access.
Dr. Mir has pioneered initiatives such as the culturally adapted Behavioral Activation therapy (BA-M) for Muslim communities and led international projects like the Socially Inclusive Cities Network. She teaches research methods, religion and health, and qualitative research across undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including roles at the University of Glasgow and Cambridge Muslim College.
Her work bridges research and policy, with contributions to NHS advisory groups, the UN/UKRI partnership on disability rights, and the Journal of Applied Research in Intellectual Disability’s editorial board. Key areas of focus include long COVID disparities, anti-stigma interventions in mental health, and participatory approaches to improve service equity.
