Dr. Gerrit Roorda is a Teacher Educator in Mathematics at the University of Groningen, affiliated with the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences. He holds a PhD in Mathematics and has over 20 years of experience in teacher education. His work focuses on mathematics education, teacher training, and the professional development of educators through innovative methodologies like Lesson Study and Teaching through Problem Solving (TTP).
He previously taught mathematics for a decade before transitioning to teacher education. Roorda currently serves as a course coordinator for Lesson Study research, an examiner for teaching practicums, and chair of the examination committee in the mathematics teacher training program. His research explores how students learn mathematics and how pedagogical approaches can be improved, particularly influenced by Japanese educational practices.
He actively collaborates with institutions like NHL Stenden Hogeschool and engages in national educational initiatives. Roorda’s contributions include advancing problem-solving skills in mathematics education and fostering teacher reflection through classroom dialogues and collaborative learning environments.
