Gerrit Jan Kootstra serves as Assistant Professor at Radboud University, holding dual appointments at the Centre for Language Studies and Department of Language and Communication. His expertise centers on psycholinguistics of multilingualism and language acquisition across child and adult populations.
Research focuses on cognitive mechanisms in multilingual language use, including cross-linguistic influence and priming phenomena where recent language exposure adapts production/comprehension patterns. Key investigation areas:

- Transfer between languages in acquisition
- Practical applications for educators and parents
Current research leadership includes the 2in1 project (2017-present) on child bilingualism, building on prior involvement in the LinC project (2010-2014) concerning language contact. He contributes to academic discourse as Associate Editor of Linguistic Approaches to Bilingualism since 2021 and teaches diverse courses spanning Diversity in Communication, Second Language Acquisition, and thesis supervision at Bachelor's and Master's levels.
