Dr. Geri Chesner is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at the National College of Education (National Louis University). Her expertise spans Visual Literacy, Program Assessment, and Children's Literature, with a focus on the visual elements of picture books. She teaches in the Teaching, Learning and Assessment Program (TLA). She began her career at Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Education: PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2000).
Her research interests include the adoption of Visual Literacy in educational settings, the role of visual elements in children's literature, and program assessment methodologies. She explores how picturebooks contribute to cognitive and literacy development, particularly through their visual components such as endpapers and illustrations.
Her publications, including works on visual literacy in picturebooks and impact assessments in K-12 education, reflect her commitment to advancing pedagogical strategies and educational outcomes.
