Geri Augusto is a Senior Fellow in International and Public Affairs and Director of Undergraduate Development Studies at Brown University's Watson Institute. She holds affiliations with the Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice (CSSJ), Africana Studies Department, and Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS). With expertise in Education, Gender, and Science Policy, her research focuses on subjugated knowledge systems, Black radicalism, and higher education transformation. She collaborates globally, including with South Africa's universities and Brazil's Federal University of Bahia.
Education: B.A. Economics (Howard University), MPA (Harvard Kennedy School), Ed.D (George Washington University).
Research explores critical black geographies, quilombola histories, and textile technologies of enslaved women. Current projects include the multimedia 'Plant Thoughts,' book 'Kalunga Letters,' and collaborative initiatives on domestic worldmaking by the enslaved. She advises the SNCC Legacy Project and contributes to Brown's Native American and Indigenous Studies Initiative.
Her work bridges academia and activism, emphasizing decolonial methodologies and transnational solidarity. Projects like the Iziko Museum Slave Lodge memorial garden and MIT's 'Everyday Design-MakerX' series highlight her focus on marginalized epistemologies.
