Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gerd Förch is affiliated with the University of Siegen as a Professor of Water Management and Soil Science since 1991. He served as Vice Rector for Teaching and Continuing Education (1993–1996), founded the Research Institute for Water and Environment (FWU), and directed the GTZ project "Water Supply Oromia" in Ethiopia (1996–2001). His career spans academia, private sector work, and international development cooperation.
- Education: Diploma in Civil Engineering (1970) and Doctorate in Groundwater Hydrology (1973) from TU Hannover
- Leadership: Managing Director of the Centre for Development Studies and Knowledge Transfer (ZEW) (2009–2012)
His research focuses on water management, soil science, and sustainable development, with expertise in hydraulic engineering, urban water systems, and pedology. Since 1990, he has led expert assignments for organizations like GTZ, RODECO, AHT, and Caritas across India, Ethiopia, Somalia, and East Africa, emphasizing international university collaborations through summer schools and master’s programs.
Prof. Förch’s academic contributions include organizing conferences, managing research projects, and developing technical networks. He held lectureships on "Environment and Society" and has been a board member of ZEW/CICD since 2009.
