Associate Professor Gerard O'Reilly holds the title of Adjunct Clinical Professor at the National Trauma Research Institute (Monash University), where he leads projects on trauma registry optimization and global emergency care systems. He concurrently serves as Head of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the National Trauma Research Institute, Consultant Emergency Physician, and Head of Global Programs at The Alfred’s Emergency and Trauma Centre. His academic credentials include a Master of Public Health (International Health), a Master of Biostatistics, and a PhD focused on trauma registry development in both developed and developing nations.
His research interests center on trauma and emergency care systems, particularly registry development, quality improvement, and global capacity-building initiatives. He has extensive experience in developing emergency programs in Sri Lanka, India, Myanmar, Vietnam, and response efforts in conflict zones like Afghanistan and post-tsunami Aceh. O'Reilly chairs the annual Alfred-Monash Global Emergency Care Conference and contributes to the Emergency Medicine Research Course.
With over 100 peer-reviewed publications, he currently supervises five PhD students. His work aligns with UN SDGs, emphasizing trauma registry impact and emergency care system resilience. Notable collaborations include WHO’s Global Alliance for the Care of the Injured and the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine.
He has received five scientific awards, including the ASEM Best Scientific Poster and multiple research fellowships. His leadership roles include past-chairmanship of the Global Emergency Committee (ACEM) and membership in international trauma registry working groups.
