Ellaine Boo serves as an Adjunct Lecturer at Monash University's Department of Nursing through the National Trauma Research Institute, where she holds the position of Head of International Programs. With 15 years of clinical experience at The Alfred hospital as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Trauma Services & Emergency departments, she bridges academic and practical trauma care.
Her educational background includes a Diploma of Nursing Science in Emergency Nursing and a Masters of Nursing – Research Methods from La Trobe University, additional studies at Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, and she is currently pursuing an MBA at Deakin University.
Ms. Boo's research interests focus on trauma systems development in resource-limited settings, particularly in developing countries. She has substantial experience in facilitating and organizing trauma education & resuscitation courses globally, with expertise in international trauma system capacity building.
Her four recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on improving trauma care systems through standardized protocols, simulation-based training, and adapting practices during global health emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic. The research shows progression from foundational trauma protocols (2019) to pandemic adaptations (2020) and comprehensive team training approaches (2023).
Ms. Boo has coordinated the AusAID Public Services Linkage Program grant to improve hospital trauma reception and resuscitation in Myanmar and the Philippines. She collaborates with Nursing Education (Alfred Health) and the Department of Nursing (Monash University) to develop the Master of Advanced Nursing – Trauma Care program.
Internationally, she has developed and delivered programs to improve trauma systems capacity in hospitals across China, Saudi Arabia, and India. Ms. Boo and Professor Mark Fitzgerald developed the Trauma Resuscitation – The Initial Approach Course, delivered in multiple countries including China, Myanmar, Philippines, and India.
