Gerard Hanlon is a Professor of Organisational Sociology at Queen Mary University of London's School of Business and Management, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His roles include membership in the Department of Business and Society and a QM Academy Fellowship (2023-24), focusing on non-traditional student learning pathways and BTEC/T-Level transitions. His research spans social theory, market societies, corporate social responsibility, and the military's influence on organizational forms.
His work critically examines management knowledge history, state-market interactions, and global value chains. Notable publications include The Dark Side of Management (2015) and articles on financialization, standardization, and neo-liberalism. Hanlon supervises PhD students exploring topics like corporate security logistics, gig economy worker organizing, and eHRM's societal impact.
