Geraldine Townend is a faculty member at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), affiliated with the Arts, Design and Architecture Faculty and the Gifted Education Research and Resource Information Centre (GERRIC). Her academic role includes lecturing and research in gifted education, with a focus on twice-exceptionality, pedagogy, creativity, and supporting students with disabilities. She holds a PhD and multiple postgraduate qualifications in education and science.
Her research interests emphasize enhancing educational outcomes for gifted learners, particularly those with disabilities, and addressing equity in gifted education. Geraldine has been awarded numerous accolades, including the 2024 ECAN Teaching Excellence Award and the 2023 Faculty Award for Excellence in Supervision. She is actively involved in professional organizations such as the Australian Association for Gifted Children and the World Council for Gifted and Talented Children.
Geraldine’s publications span gifted education, special education, and teacher development, with recent works addressing ICT-based data systems, autism support in education, and rural gifted student needs. She has secured grants including the ASPECT Linkage Project and the NSW Equity Consortium initiative. Her teaching focuses on gifted education, twice-exceptional learners, and creativity across K-12 curricula.
She collaborates internationally, presenting at conferences in Australia, Japan, and China, and contributes to policy discussions on educational equity and teacher training. Geraldine’s work bridges research and practice, aiming to transform educational approaches for marginalized gifted populations.
