Gerald Steinhardt

Gerald Steinhardt is a retired Professor at Technische Universität Wien's Department of Artifact-based Computing and User Research. His research focuses on social and organizational informatics, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), science and technology studies, and media research. He has advised numerous students on topics including digital media practices, autonomous vehicles, and technology's societal impact. His work bridges interdisciplinary system design and cultural studies of technology.

Key projects include the Urban Mobility Lab aspern.mobil LAB (2017–2022), funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG). Despite retirement, he remains active through courses like 'Research Seminar for Master Students' and 'Seminar Media and Human-Centered Computing.'

His research emphasizes ICT’s role in social change, with publications exploring interdisciplinary technical assessment and the cultural implications of computing in late modernity.
