Gerald R. Greenberg is an Associate Professor of Russian and Linguistics at Syracuse University, holding concurrent roles as Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Associate Dean for the Humanities Division in the College of Arts & Sciences. His administrative leadership spans over two decades, including interim department chair positions across multiple disciplines and directorships of the Linguistic Studies Program and Humanities Center.
Education: Ph.D. in Slavic Linguistics (Cornell University, 1985); M.A. in Slavic Linguistics (Cornell, 1981); B.A. in Russian Linguistics & Mathematics (Bucknell University, 1977).
Research focuses on Russian/Slavic linguistics and syntactic theory, with strong advocacy for the Liberal Arts through public writings like his Washington Post trilogy (2015-2017) and NPR 1A appearance (2018). His media work emphasizes the enduring relevance of humanities in STEM-dominated education landscapes.
