Gerald McKinley is an Associate Professor at Western University, affiliated with the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. He holds a PhD and MA from Western University, and a BA from Trent University. His research focuses on Indigenous health in Ontario, particularly the social determinants of mental health, suicide prevention, and eco-system health. Dr. McKinley employs community-based and ethnographic methodologies, exploring structural change and social networks' impact on health outcomes in Northwestern Ontario.
He collaborates with the Indigenous Youth Futures Partnership through the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority and contributes to CRISM (Centre for Research on Social Inequality, Aging and Health), investigating community-based responses to substance misuse. Dr. McKinley's clinical activities emphasize Indigenous health equity and social adaptation in health systems. His office is located at the Western Centre for Public Health and Family Medicine, Room 4115.
